kill your ego

this is not a suicide song. the original title was “the day” but i didn’t want any misunderstanding of the chorus, hence the title “kill your ego”. the genre is a tribute to a few of my all time favorites: the ramones, husker du, the cars… this song has been performed live with my band the fuzzy bees. the band also recorded a version of the song with cool guitars by robert martins and mike valiante plus, obviously, better drums by derek davidson. maybe that version will see the light of day someday but for now, enjoy my own therapy’s “kill your ego”.

you’re a pillar you’re a butterfly
you can sting like a bee
from those prisons inside your mind
set yourself free
the answer is not suicide
of the physical kind
you need to kill something bigger
inside your mind
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
sunny days turn to cloudy nights
quicker than you thought
you find yourself alone now
at the edge of the night
you reach for the exit
soon you realize
you need to kill something bigger
inside your mind
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
the day i kill my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s not me it’s my self
it’s my self
it’s my self
it’s my self
it’s my self
it’s my self

come out and play

did you ever feel that some people need you only when there’s no one else around?

hey, wanna play
wanna play
wanna play
hey, do you know
do you know
do you know
where to go
where to go
where to go
where to go
hey, wanna play
wanna play
wanna play
hey, do you know
do you know
do you know
where to go
where to go
oh i have nowhere to go
oh i have nowhere to go
come out and play

hey you, i know your name

this song is basically about us all, pretty much, being the same. we all have the same insecurities, worries, and at the core just want to be part of something. to be accepted, to be loved. but we are afraid to show our vulnerability. we often feel, and sometimes choose to be, left out. opening up seems more of a drag than anything else. don’t despair. don’t feel alone. you’re not alone. hey you, i know your name…this song is for you. enjoy.

feeling out
feeling drab
you’re reaching out
but it’s a drag
a drag
strangers’ faces in the crowd
looking out for just a shroud
a doubt
a doubt
hey you
you know i know your name
hey you
you know we’re just the same
you know we’re just the same
blend yourself right in a space
there is no trace upon your face
you’re fake
going on about your day
seems like ecerything’s ok
you wait
you wait
hey you
you know i know your name
hey you
you know we’re just the same
you know we’re just the same
hey you
hey you

My Own Therapy

So this is my first post. I’m not a blogger so don’t jump all over me if I break some blogging etiquette. I needed a place to put out stuff that’s on my mind but more so my creativity. You see, I’m a musician and like most musicians in a band. I’ve been in bands for the past 30 years. Thing with being in a band is that you can’t be 100% free to create whatever you want. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing with other musicians and creating music in a give and take environment but I feel I need to do something where I don’t need approval from anyone. Letting that creativity out can only help me with creative endeavours involving other musicians. That’s where the name My Own Therapy comes in. I’m planning on posting unfinished demos and ideas. Why? Because  there’s something cathartic about putting stuff into the universe and letting it go. Who knows, maybe someone else out there will see this and be inspired to do the same. I’ll be posting my first songs in the next couple of weeks.
